SYNOPSIS
Palermo, July 1992. These are the days of the Via D’Amelio massacre. “All is over now,” said a shocked Antonio Caponnetto to a journalist, coming out of the morgue, after giving his last farewell to Paolo Borsellino. The retired judge, father of the Anti-mafia Pool, was the ambassador of a country, Italy, whose men are no longer fit to be seen. “Who is going to defend us now? Where is the State?”, people started to ask Caponnetto. The same questions he had heard two months before, when Giovanni Falcone died. The former Head of Office of Instruction is the symbol of a country, Italy, which stand up after the nth slap in the face. The regret that we feel for that sentence he pronounced in a moment of depression, is one more reason to keep our hopes up, get strength back, work for cultural change, and fight the mafia. It is the beginning of the Palermo’s spring. The “secular prayer” that he read at Paolo Borsellino’s funeral, set up the project of the ten years that would come: Caponnetto becomes the first anti-mafia civil activist, he goes around Italy to give his own account to school kids and to promote the ideas of the two judges murdered by the mafia.
