ARCHITETTURE BAROCCHE IN ARGENTO E CORALLO

by Salvatore Rizzo (editor)

Baroque architectures in silver and coral

The book is the catalogue of an Exhibition (held in 2007 in Lubecca and Vicenza) of special Sicilian “paliotti” in silk, silver, coral and gold, produced by local artists between 1650 and 1720 and designed for the Catholic liturgy.  Some of these “paliotti” are evidence of the great ability of their authors who were able to exploit the natural malleability of silver, to create special scenography  effects, and the suggestive color of coral to evoke magic and the symbolic value it has acquired in the Christian culture.

The magnificence of the “paliotti” reproduced in the book is a good vehicle for a new knowledge of an extraordinary form of art that had been neglected for centuries.
