Rivelazione all’Esquilino

by Mariolina Venezia

Esquilin Revelation

Rosaria and Delfina move to piazza Vittorio on the Esquiline Hill in Rome, a quarter built at the beginning of 19th century and now inhabited by Indians, Pakistanis, Sri Lankans and Africans. Too ethnic and too full of immigrants for Rosaria’s Sicilian father, who has almost forgotten that he once emigrated to Belgium, where he experienced similar estrangement; too down-market for the millionaire father of Delfina, a depressed body artist with little imagination. A series of different types of foreignness clash, identify with one another, intermingle and learn to co-exist… a perfect revolution in twelve scenes.

Mariolina Venezia was born in Matera and lives in Rome, where she works as a screenwriter for film and TV. Her novel Mille anni che sto qui (Einaudi, 2006) was sold in twenty countries and won several awards, including the Campiello Award. She also published the collection of short stories Altri miracoli and the novel Come piante tra i sassi (Einaudi, 2008 and 2009).
