The University for Foreigners of Siena (Università per Stranieri di Siena, www.unistrasi.it) is an Italian public University specialized in teaching Italian as a foreign language and in scientific research concerning the diffusion of Italian Language and Culture throughout the world.
The University is the result of an ancient tradition of teaching Italian to foreigners. The first courses for German students in Siena date back to 1588, and it was in 1917 that the University first offered courses of Italian Language and Culture for foreigners after the unification of Italy.
Studying at the University for Foreigners of Siena means being part of a rich tradition, where study and research are conducted in a student-oriented environment, with international students from more than 100 countries.
The University has been awarded with the “European Label for Languages” by the Council of Europe for 10 times for the best projects for language diffusion, and its Language Centre is an Accredited Member of EAQUALS (the European Association for Quality Language Service) since 2015.
