Famed author Andrea Camillieri, whose series mystery novels featuring the quarrelsome yet engaging Inspector Montalbano have become bestsellers in Italy and abroad, will celebrate his 90th birthday on Tuesday, September 6. Camillieri published his first novel in the wildly popular series in 1994; today over 20 books have been published featuring Inspector Montalbano, and 10 million copies of his books have been sold.
Camillieri has won various prizes during his career, such as the Nino Martoglio International Book Award (1998), and has also been invested as a Grand Officer in the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic (Grande Ufficiale Ordine al Merito della Repubblica Italiana–2001).
To commemorate the occasion, Penguin Books will release the newly-translated novel A Voice in the Night (La voce di notte, Sellerio, 2012). A Voice in the Night, which will be available for purchase in November 2016, is the 20th installment in the series involving Inspector Montalbano, and follows the story of a mysterious robbery and a grisly murder.
