Commander of the River

The town had no water and so the people of the village decided that two wise men should create a river. They did so but the river was infested with crocodiles. Someone had to tame them and the people elected a commander who had the power to do so. Yabar has heard this legend ever since he was a child and has learned that in order to know what is good one must learn to live with what is evil. Eighteen years old, not keen on studying, Yabar likes to provoke: he lives in Rome with his mother, Zahra. His father left them many years ago. Sent to his aunt in London as a punishment, Yabar finds himself for the first time in a Somali microcosm where he will discover a terrible family secret, something he might want to forget.
