The Bible of Venice

by

The Old and New Testament, Work in two Volumes
Biblical Texts and Mosaics of St. Mark Basilica in Venice
The most comprehensive volume illustrating the mosaics of St Mark’s Basilica in Venice.
The images were made available by the “Procuratoria di San Marco” and include the mosaics, the treasures (the gold altar piece is also seen), the tapestries, floors and statues; each detail can be enjoyed in stimulating close-ups.
In a vertical progression of visual, cultural and artistic delight, the Bible of Venice provides close contact with the Basilica’s spectacular mosaics, offering readers images of works found at great height, in arches and vaults, which are too far away for visitors to see with the naked eye.
For the first time, all the biblical text has been connected to the mosaic images under the supervision of a Scientific
Committee elected by the Procuratoria di San Marco, the ancient council composed of theologians and scholars, tasked with the protection and preservation of the Basilica mosaics.

The committee includes:

Mons. Antonio Meneguolo
(Procuratoria di San Marco)

Prof. Don Natalino Bonazza
(Rector Ist. Giovanni Paolo I – Fondazione Studi Generali Marcianum)

Mons. Giuseppe Camilotto
(Canon of St Mark’s)

Prof. Maria da Villa Urbani
(Procuratoria di San Marco)

Sister Leonard Azzopardi
(Pastoral direction of tourism)

The introduction to the work is edited by the Patriarch of Venice.
