EUROPE IS A CIRCLE OF STARS EBOOK

by Marco Picasso

What was Europe like in the 1960s? The continent was in the midst of the Cold War. Western Europe was in the US sphere of influence, while Eastern Europe was part of the Soviet bloc.

In a climate of rebirth and post-war revenge, young people wanted to carve out a place for themselves in the world and, in advance of the revolution of 1968, they were often in conflict with governments which they considered distant and insensitive to the real needs of the populations and in agreement in the rights of people to decide their future independently.

When mass tourism was still to be invented, in the travel diary "Europe is a circle of stars", a young man fresh from high school diploma and one step away from entering university, faces, during the summer of 1960, his hitchhiking trip to Europe, which turns out to be an adventure shared with the guys he met along the way that takes him from Genoa to Denmark, with a backpack containing the bare minimum, a map of the hostels, little money and a great desire to know and discover.

A journey which, seen more than 60 years later, highlights how much our perception of the world, the way of life and the expectations of young people have changed. And with unique solidarity experiences.

How do today's children conceive belonging to Europe? And with what spirit do they approach "comfortable" travel during their holidays? What is certain is that the adventure of this young traveler will never be able to compare with those of the current era, as will his precision in keeping a daily diary.Reading the story is useful not only for the author to retrace a period of his youth, but it will enrich knowledge, teaching something even to those who have never had a similar experience.
