This is a math book for teachers and parents in distress: a handbook for avoiding the pitfalls of mathematics. The author shares her experience with math’s difficulties and explains the stumbling blocks that make our children and students falter, proving that many share the same difficulties and that they can overcome them. In order to do so, she provides some games that can be played alone, in couples or in a group. The reader is absorbed by the game dynamics and will assimilate mathematical concepts for the sole purpose of having fun, and perhaps to win. Lastly, she offers anecdotes and brief texts that shed light on some of the darkest corners of the art of numbers, because even a story about math can be engrossing.
Daniela Folcio, a mathematics teacher in Milan, has made math games and exhibitions, such as the interactive exhibition Reflections at the Archimedes Garden in Priverno. She is one of the organizers of the dissemination event “Scienza Under 18” and is also involved in training projects for math teachers.
