Il caso Speziale

Was Antonino Speziale really the murderer of Filippo Raciti? The book that recounts the case of Speziale is an answer to this question. The legal truth is that the inspector, who died on February 2 of 2007, was shot to death in the sink by a guy who at the time was seventeen years old, Anthony Speziale in competition with another person.

During the trial, Anthony will be convicted of manslaughter in the first degree, punishable by 14 years later, during the appeal, will be reduced to eight. The Supreme Court, in November 2012, will confirm the verdict of conviction and sentence become immediately enforceable: Antonino Speziale is to reopen the doors of the prison. The court case is now over but the doubts remain. To feed them it will be the reading of those pleadings, on the basis of which the defendant was convicted by a final. Those acts, which to date, none of the players had a chance to read, because they have never been made public. I will now, because through reading this book, which retraces the steps of the court case, the reader will finally become aware of what it was during the birth process. The hope for the writer is that the reader is able to exercise his sacred duty: to form your own, free, and complete opinion.

He felt the need for a book on the death of Inspector Raciti?

The answer, at least mine, is yes. I say this with conviction because I believe that – beyond judgments in a democratic state you should definitely watch but equally undoubtedly you can also criticize – there are some cases that should be told, in such a way that the reader can make a own opinion.

Without any legal value, mind you, but still an opinion: the record is chock full of cases finally adjudicated by the Supreme Court that, once reopened, then saw the acquittal of defendants – from innocent – have spent years in the nation’s prisons, aided only by their own lawyers who have believed in their words.

Let there right now, with a clear premise: the death of Inspector Raciti is a consequence of behaviors that should have no place in sports competitions. The axiom is in fact simple: whatever was the cause of death, this would not have occurred if the spectators had behaved properly.

If that, morally, it may be enough to shift the responsibility for the incident, collectively, on the Catania ultras who participated in the riots, this can not, however, be sufficient for the investigative journalist, the lawyer and in some way, even to the judge who must, in their role, to determine who did what, beyond judgments of a moral nature that can only be the coloring of an episode.

… With a bit of personal experience as a fan, I also knew how to manage public order of the time, rather than defuse outbreaks of violence, would be able to create them.

They are in fact of the opinion that the person in charge of public order – and for it I mean who makes the decisions upstream, when you lay down the operating procedures of the transfer of an organized supporters – should ask yourself a few more questions and have some certainty less.

And most importantly, should – as well as the blacksmith knows that iron works – to show how behavioral and emotional that move the most radical supporter.

And … of course he is not signed to say if the boys convicted of the murder of Inspector Raciti are guilty or innocent: the Supreme Court, putting an end to the process, refer the matter to the history of the first hypothesis, provided that in future be able to obtain a new trial. But I’m not a judge, a lawyer and then I personally think most likely the latter, hoping – given the precedents – not to run into a few preventive measure for expressing my opinion on the blank pages of this book.

To close, and put it in one sentence, this book allows the reader, with simple language and divorced from legal technicalities, to form your own opinion.
