Sicily, a land rich with history, is the island of myths.

For the Ancient Greeks, it was a fascinating and risky island, rich of treasures, marvels and dangers.

It was one of the favourite places of the Gods, but also inhabited by fierce giants, such as the Cyclops encountered by the hero Ulysses.

The book recounts the different world-famous myths based in Sicily, divided into sections. We mention among others: Ulysses and Polyphemus, Scylla and Charybdis, the Sword of Damocles, Alpheus and Arethusa, Aeolus king of the winds, Demeter and Kore.

Giuseppina Norcia (author) (Siracusa, 1973) is a lover of music, the sea, good food, and telling stories around a campfire. She specializes in cultural dissemination, and focuses on ancient theater, classical culture, and their persistence in the contemporary world. She has organized educational projects with both Italian and foreign universities, and has worked for more than ten years at the National Institute of Antique Drama (INDA) Foundation. Recently, she has taught courses in ancient dramaturgy, and coordinated youth workshops on classical theater, the Italian language, and creative conflict resolution. She is the author of articles about the history of Syracuse, the modern staging of Greek tragedies, philosophy, and Buddhism, which have been published in specialized journals She is the author of the books L’isola dei miti. Leandra La Rosa (illustrator) was born in Erice (Trapani) in 1991. She studied at Palermo’s Academy of fine arts and now she is a freelance graphic designer and illustrator. Her first book, published by VerbaVolant Edizioni is “L’isola dei miti. Racconti della Sicilia al tempo dei greci.”
