Such a Sad Day, a Happy Day

A doctor, a philosopher, a rebel. Sócrates Brasileiro is renown for having been one of the most original players in the art of football, for his physical and technical qualities and for his way of conceiving football more as enjoyment than a profession, «a microcosm in the macrocosm of society». He was in fact able, through football, to give rise to a unique experience in the world of sport: a political laboratory that spread through the country – Brazil in the 1980s – oppressed by two decades of military dictatorship.
