The Dante Code

Within The Divine Comedy the author identifies three levels of intertextuality: the first two are the relationship with the sources and quotations from elsewhere in the work itself; the third is the ‘genetic code’ that has shaped Italian, European and American literature.

The book shows how literature is profoundly indebted to Dante, whose influence not only on contemporary poetics but also on popular literature is inescapable.
