Giunti Group, one of the largest and best known publishing groups in Italy, has surpassed Mondadori in the number of copies of children’s books sold in 2012, largely due to the popularity of Peppa Pig.
The Peppa Pig books are based on the British animated children’s television series about a cheeky but loveable 5-year-old pig who likes playing dress-up, eating spaghetti and jumping in muddy puddles.
According to Nielsen data, 3,380,688 copies of children’s books were sold last year by Giunti (22.5%) while the Mondadori Group (22.2%) sold 3,329,674 compared to 2011.
Editoriale Scienza, Edizioni del Borgo, Touring, Dami and Fatatrac are part of the Giunti Group. Mondadori is comprised of Einaudi, Piemme, Sperling & Kupfer, Mondadori Electa, Mondadori Informatica, and Mondadori Education.
