Cancellation of the major book fairs in Latin America

The major book fairs in Latin America (Peru, Argentina & Colombia) are facing the hard decision of cancelling their cultural events  in their effort of fighting the spreading of COVID-19. The Johns Hopkins Coronavirus Resource Center reports in Colombia, in mid April, a total of 3,105 confirmed cases and 131 deaths, in Argentina 2,571 cases and 112 deaths, while in Peru, there are 11,475 cases and 254 deaths.

Filbo, the Feria Internacional del Libro de Bogotà, one of the most important book expo in the Spanish speaking world, has been postponed to undisclosed date.

La Feria Internacional del Libro de Buenos Aires, which was set for April 30 to May 18, has been postponed to undisclosed date. They are keeping the spirit of the expo alive through their YouTube Channel, reaching 600 videos showcased since 2012.

FIL, the Feria Internacional del Libro de Lima, scheduled to run July 17 to August 2, has been cancelled. It was originally scheduled to run April 21 to May 5. The organizers are working to build an online platform in which each publisher or bookstore will have their own space.
